ULINK Releases its Drive Master® 2003 Designed for New SATA HDD and CD-ROM/ CD-RW/DVD Functional Test

ULINK Technology provides test tools that are compatible with Intel's new 865/875P Chipset (ICH5)

Cupertino, CA, September 15, 2003—ULINK Technology, an innovative technology and engineering company, announced today that the company's Flagship, the Drive Master® 2003 Software, has completed its beta test. The company is preparing for the official release of the version 1.0 product in the coming weeks. This software is designed for testing SATA (Serial ATA) HDD, CD-ROM, CD-RW, and DVD drives. It is compatible with the industry standard ATA/ATAPI specification 7.0 and optical command set Mt. Fuji Version 5. The software is also compatible with the newly released Intel 875P chipset.

"Ulink is committed to provide the industrial standard testing tool for the SATA hard drive and optical devices such as CD-ROM/DVD as the SATA interface is becoming the choice of storage interconnections," said Shawn Chou, Director of Marketing and Sales at Ulink. "We want to give all developers of the SATA host and device providers with a standard tool. The Drive Master 2003 release will simply bring maximum control and capability to its users for testing."

The first release of the Drive Master product is capable of testing the SATA device under the ICH5 system configuration. It supports SATA 1.0 specification as well as ATA/ATAPI specifications. The program can operate PIO and UDMA transfer modes. It supports all hard drive commands defined in the ATA specification. It also includes test scripts for hard disk common access method (CAM) and regression tests. In addition, it supports performance measurement by displaying the execution time on every command executed.

Drive Master can be used for testing not only on hard drives but also on optical drives. The full feature of the ATAPI command support allows users to test the CD-ROM/DVD and RW drives. The unique optical testing capability will allow the optical drive to adopt the SATA interface in the coming years. The Drive Master 2003 supports optical CAM test for testing all optical command sets. It provides testing scripts for checking the corner cases of the command; it also provides long term regression test utility for read/write testing. All tests support PIO and UDMA modes.

Since its first Beta release in April, Drive Master 2003 has been shipped to major developers for feedback and improvements. Over the last few months our engineers have improved the product by fixing the bugs and supporting functions according to the feedback from potential customers. The program is now operating under either Windows XP or Windows ME in an efficient manner. With its timing analysis package, the program will allow users to plot a histogram for the command executed.

"Ulink is committed to provide functions for advanced SATA and SATA II functions," added Chou. "The company is working on supporting the newly defined SATA II functions such as Native Command Queuing and Port Multiplier testing. We pledge to provide the industry with a first class testing tool for the new protocols. We also expect to be in full compliance with Intel and other industrial leaders in the design of the Advanced Host Control Interface. We plan to support SATA II and its future releases once they become available."

ULINK's Drive Master 2003 will be available in the next few weeks. For more information about the Drive Master 2003 and other Ulink Technology products, please visit ULINK at www.ulinktech.com.
